Dawn's Inca Trail Challenge
Never in my wildest dreams
I’ll admit that the expedition was the hardest and most challenging thing I've ever attempted but at the same time was by far the most rewarding! Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that I could ever complete such an amazing challenge! It was an experience of a lifetime and has inspired me to pursue the next challenge - I'm already saving my pennies for Costa Rica in 2016 - I can't wait for the dates to come available on the DA Website!! I made friends for life during my trip and it will be with several of them that I will experience Costa Rica.
A year of 5's
I took part in a further 4 challenges last year, they were:-
Race for Life for Cancer Research - May 2013
Edinburgh Marathon 10k for Macmillan Cancer Support - May 2013
Edinburgh Moonwalk for Breast Cancer - June 2013
Abseil from the Forth Rail Bridge for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland - October 2013
It was a year of 5's for me - I set myself 5 challenges to celebrate reaching my milestone of being cancer free for 5 years with a goal to raise £5,000 for charity...in the end I actually managed to raise a whopping £7,733!
My fundraising exploits included a car boot sale; cake sales at work; holding a Race Night with some fantastic donated prizes; sponsorship from family, friends and workmates; walking round Rosyth Dockyard with a collection bucket accompanied by someone dressed up in a Hero Bear suit, in the height of summer; spending a weekend standing in Asda with a collection bucket; running a tuck shop/trolley at work and selling some unwanted items on Ebay!
It was an amazing year but it's not the end of my fundraising - 2014 will see me tackle another 6 challenges - Race for Life, 3 Land Challenge (3 Moonwalks), Ex WRAF charity relay (relay round the coast of Britain) and the Isle of Wight 100km Challenge. So far I'm not far off the £10,000 mark and hope to raise as much as possible for some great charities once again!
Dawn lives in Dunfermline, she signed up to the H4H Inca Trail Trek in April 2013 and completed her challenge in November.
