Loxley's Kilimanjaro Climb
Loxley Crawshaw climbed Kilimanjaro with us in 2010 as part of a Macmillan group and raised £7,000 for his climb. Overall his employer Capita raised £100,000 on their charity climb for Macmillan. He says he doesn’t remember much of the summit as he was feeling a little under the weather at the time (!) and admits pure willpower got him to the top along with the help and support of the DA Crew and local guides.
But it changed my life…
“Coming home I spent the first six month or so either basking in the glory or just staring out of the window - I knew I had to do something else”. Loxley turned to running; he first trained for a marathon and then an ultra-marathon covering 100k. He regularly runs, mainly fell type races with his club The Dark Peak Fell Runners and this year will be taking part in his first 24hr Bob Graham Round.
“I'm 44 now and you'll regularly find me during the weekends navigating round the remote areas of the Peak District with a smile on my face. Kilimanjaro did that to me – I still stare out of the window sometime though!”
