Nestled between the coast and the hills, Barcelona has a wonderful setting and our trekathon route exploits this fully, taking in sights from the beachfront via the old Gothic Quarter to the shady wooded hills behind the city and the mountain of Montjüic with its Olympic Park. Enroute we pass Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell, Las Ramblas - the most famous street in Barcelona - and Camp Nou Football Stadium.

Guide Itinerary:

  • DAY 1: After making your own way to Barcelona, we meet at our hotel. You are then free to enjoy Friday evening in Barcelona!
  • DAY 2: Our big day starts early at Barceloneta Beach, we set off along the coast to the Vila Olympica and then inland to the distinctive Arc de Triomf. Continuing to the barrí gotic, via markets, churches and the Picasso museum. Passing the lovely church of Santa Maria del Pí and the Plaça Reial, we emerge onto Las Ramblas. Heading north, we pass Gaudí’s Palau Gell to the huge, central Plaça de Catalunya, then head further north, passing Gaudí's famous houses of Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. Swinging west, we come to the Sagrada Familia and onto Parc Güell, an architectural playground again designed by Gaudí. Our route explores the Park, before heading up into the Collserola Hills - a real contrast to the city streets, we walk along the lovely off-road Carretera de les Aïgues, a track that takes us into some shade, home to both Mount Tibidabo (500m), and the Tibidabo cathedral. After a few miles we descend, via the Parc de l’Oreneta and the 14th-century Monastery of Pedralbes. We then head south towards the coast and pass the famous Camp Nou Football Stadium. We walk through the historic area of Sants en route to the majestic Plaça d’Espagna. Here we follow the grand avenue towards Montjüic and Palau Nacional with the Olympic Stadium from the 1992 Games. We follow its winding paths to the top (184m), where Montjüic Castle looks over the city and the sea.
  • Descending now to the coast and the marina we return to Barceloneta, where we finish on the beach.
  • DAY 3: You are free to enjoy the city and depart for home as per your own travel arrangements.
