To mark AITO's 40th year, we have devised a charity challenge based around the theme of '40'. As a longstanding AITO member, Discover Adventure have volunteered to operate this event on behalf of AITO because, well, this is our specialism! Come and join AITO colleagues and friends in a day out along the South coast on a challenging 40km walk and raise money whilst doing so, for a charity of your choice.
If 40km is too much of a challenge for you then join us on one of the shorter distances on offer. And if walking at all is too much of a challenge we have even laid on a treasure hunt by car covering 40km as well (on a different route!). Starting times will be different for each version of the challenge, so that we all finish together about the same time.
AITO member Dragoman will be exercising their specialism in adventure by bringing one of their trucks down to the area to offer camping facilities for those who'd like to network round the campfire before and/or after the event. There's also an option for everyone to end the day's challenge and get-together (camping not necessary) for some food and drink to just relax or boast about how far we walked (or drove!).
So read on and choose your challenge...
- Meet at Beachy Head for registration and briefing and transfer to start point
- 40km walkers prepare for an early start and transfer to Lewes, walk south up steep inclines and along high ridges to Firle Beacon, high point of the day - 20km walkers join at Firle Beacon; almost continual ups and downs - Loop south through picturesque village of Alfriston and enjoy flat section along Cuckmere River to coast - 10km walkers join at Seven Sisters Country Park. Last section of walk tackles famous rolling chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters - Last uphill effort to Beachy Head and cross Finish Line - we've made it! - Enjoy achievement and camaraderies of your fellow trekkers before heading home (Car Rally will start and finish at Beachy Head; challenges will have to be met and clues discovered during the drive!)
