Is anyone here doing the Classic FM Hadrian's Wall Trekathon in June. I'd love to meet some fellow walkers before the day! Get in touch if you are! Lucy-Ann

Hello Stewart,

Lovely to hear from you, and thanks for responding to my post. I was wondering if I was the only one! I do hope you're a friendly and gallant Roman!! You never know, I may need a rescuer on the day!

Where are you based? I am way down South, in Eastbourne. I'm in training over the South Downs, but never been up to Cumbria, so quite excited about the trek!

Have you done one before?

L-A

Hi Stewart...

73 people! Well, what a great crowd there will be!

I tried to book some accommodation for 2 nights today, but with no luck! The hostels nearby seemed to be booked up and didn't have much luck with B and Bs and on-line booking systems!! Got frustrated and gave up in the end - I'll try again tomorrow or over the weekend. Have you booked anywhere or are you not staying in the area? If you have any tips about accommodation, I'd really appreciate some!!

I've not yet sorted accomodation for the Friday. How's the training going for the walk? I live on the Wirral - weather has been very cold and wet recently - it's hard to get motivated when it's like this! - does anyone else live in the north west?

Hi Claire,

I agree the weather the weather has been pretty wild at
times - down here in the South too! BUT... it's good
training and character building and I have often found
myself saying "It's only water"!!!!!!! I actually enjoy
the different weather conditions and try and find
something to love about the wet and windy days! When it's
been really horrid (and I've only resorted to this once
so far!) do some cross-training stuff indoors. I am a
member of a David Lloyd club so mix swimming and cycling
and I have used the treadmill to do some walking. Anyway
- just some thoughts for you! Regards accommodation, I
have booked a hostel in Brampton - about 2 miles from the
start - Its the Greenhead Hotel and Hostel - E-mail Sue
at daveandsuegreenhead@btconnect.com. £15 a night for the
hostel. Hope that helps.

BTW - Anyone want to share some champagne with me after
the walk???!!!!!!!! C'mon we'll have earned it!! Let's
get a champagne group together - ANYONE OUT THERE???!!!!

Hi Lucy-Ann
Good advice - I go to a local gym and a "body conditioning" class which is good for toning muscles but I must get used to walking in all conditions as we've no idea what the weather will be like on the day!
Since my last last message I too have managed to find accomodation - at the Blacksmiths Arms 3 miles from Brampton. Just hope they will let me have an early breakfast!
Will definitely want to celebrate after the walk - it's the first time I've attempted a walk of this distance.
Come on all you walkers - where are you?

Hi Claire,

I am glad you have found accommodation, and you're not
too far from me then. We shall have to hook up at the
start! This is also the first walk I have done too, so
we're in the same boat! I used to do lots of running
events (when I was younger) but haven't entered any event
for many years, and not one of this nature. I am under no
illusions as to what a challenge it will be, but it is
not a "race", so I intend to really enjoy it - as much as
I can!!! Yes, we'll need a good breakfast - porridge or
oats/muesli would be ideal. I am going to take lots of
fruit, and some Nakd bars (dried fruit and nut/seed bars)
for food, and as long I can get a coffee before we set
off - I'll be happy!!!

I am sure we can drum up a few more walkers who can add
to the post-walk celebrations - have we tempted anyone
else do you think!!

Bye for now Claire
