Getting very close now--just wanted to wish everyone the very best of
everything (including good weather and comfy footwear!) for our Trekathon
on Saturday.
See you in Winchester,
Sue

Hope to see anyone who is walking on Saturday for Arocha Christians
in Conservation wearing our green T shirts. I think I will be very
slow as I havent done much training, but I have over £600 promised to
spur me on.

We did it! I found it tough--as described, but SO worth it.
Congrats to Kelly and everyone else who made it yesterday
And a big thank you to all the Discover Adventure crew--very well
organised, friendly and helpful.

Well done to all that completed the S2S Trekathon at the
weekend!!
It was incredibly tough, but such a rewarding feeling to
finish. A huge thankyou the Doc & Co who patched me and my
GF up at the halfway mark. We both have some pretty nasty
blisters to deal with for the next few days (weeks for my
GF unfortunately), but without aforementioned patching, I
truly believe we'd have been unable to finish or if we
had, it would have required a trip to A&E on Sunday!
I've definitely learnt some lessons about appropriate
footwear though. If I had to share some advice for future
trekkers, it would be:
1) Do feel free to wear trainers for this walk if it's
going to be sunny in future. The terrain is mild, and it
would be far more comfortable to do so.
2) Don't take a huge rucksack: Just 1 litre of water, a
box of nurofen, compede, zinc oxide tape, talc, suncream,
a hat, lightweight waterproofs & lucozade tablets will
suffice. Given there's a stop every 5-8 miles
(food/water/supplies), we took more than we had to.
3) Do wear a hoody/jumper around your waist. It can be
cold in the morning, and if it rains, it'll keep you warm.
4) Do remember the first half of the walk is far more
difficult than the second. Both psychologically, and in
terms of terrain.
5) Don't eat too much at lunch; easy to do, but hard to
walk on.
6) Don't eat protein-rich foods in the evening following
the run; after such a physical beating, digestion can be a
bit dodgy.
7) Don't book up anything strenuous for the day following
the walk (unless you're fit enough); you need a rest!
8) Don't expect it to be a "fun" walk (or a pleasure
walk), expect to be knackered/have painful feet/blisters.
It is a challenge remember!
9) Do enjoy the most amazing feeling in the world though
when you finally cross the finish line and know you've
truly earned the ability to collapse in a heap at the
nearest available patch of unoccupied space.
