Discover Adventure organises Cycle Challenge for Help for Heroes
Discover Adventure is proud to be organising the epic Halfords Help for Heroes Bike Ride that takes place later this May.
300 cyclists will be taking in the hills, battlefields and memorials of Northern France as they raise money for facilities at Headley Court, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.
Our challenging cycle ride starts from HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, with a rousing fly-past from the Red Arrows. After an overnight ferry crossing, the hard work starts!
Our cycle route takes in the surprisingly hilly roads of Northern France, and we visit some of the region’s most significant and moving WW1 & WW2 battle sites, including Pegasus Bridge, the Normandy Landing beaches and Thiepval on the Somme, where we will lay wreaths.
After 5 full days of cycling we reach Dunkirk and return to Dover on HMS Bulwark (with the help of landing craft!) We receive an impressive welcome home by a stunning Red Devils parachute display.
This combination of remembering the dead from WW1 & WW2, and fundraising for wounded soldiers from more recent conflicts, will ensure that our cyclists find plenty of motivation to conquer every mile and hill that faces them.
Discover Adventure has been designing and operating challenging events for charities since 1994, and has a huge depth of expertise in providing meaningful, achievable challenges for ordinary people who want to push themselves for a good cause. Achieving a goal for a good cause – often a very personal cause – is often highly moving for our participants, but we expect this cycle challenge for Help for Heroes to be an emotional journey like no other.
The final day of our challenge sees us cycling en-masse through central London to Whitehall, where we join hundreds of other cyclists who have taken part in the Great British Hero Ride. All together, we cycle to the Cenotaph and Horse Guards Parade.
The Halfords Help for Heroes Bike Ride has been full for some time, but if you want to get involved why not join the hundreds of other cyclists and enjoy the opportunity to cycle on closed roads through central London? There is a strict limit to how many people can join this part of the cycle, so you must register in advance to be allowed into this area.
