LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY

All our trips are designed to provide a challenge, and most people will need to undertake some level of training to be able to complete the challenge successfully. Please bear in mind that, depending on your overall fitness and health, what is extremely hard for one person to accomplish may be only moderately hard to another. Some trips however are generally tougher than others, so the following provides a general guide.

Remember that we want you to enjoy our trips! Training well before the challenge takes place will give you more enthusiasm and confidence, as well as improving your fitness, which will ensure you enjoy all aspects of the trip as well as the physical challenge itself (a good sense of humour helps too!)

There are many different factors adding to the overall level of difficulty, such as climbs, terrain, distances, and the extent to which you may be affected by altitude, etc.

It isn't just the physical side of things which can present a challenge. To many people, factors such as camping, having little access to washing facilities, being in remote locations in different environments and cultures, and having little privacy from the rest of your group all add to the challenge. Of course, they all add to the reasons you'll have a great time too!

We divide our trips into Moderate, Tough and Extreme Challenges:

MODERATE:
Moderate trips require good fitness. They usually involve a varied terrain, with some harder or longer days. The weather may be changeable. Trekking and cycling may be fairly undemanding but at altitude. Moderate trips are not easy!

TOUGH:
In addition to the above, Tough challenges feature demanding climbs and terrain in general, longer days and potentially challenging weather conditions. Altitude (if present) adds to the difficulty of the challenge.

EXTREME:
In addition to the above, Extreme challenges may involve greater extremes of altitude and temperature, demand greater stamina as well as fitness, and require a determination and confidence which will only come with total commitment to what you are taking on.

Please bear in mind that the purpose of these grades is to give you a general impression of how hard the trips are. A Moderate trip may have very tough days, and an Extreme trip may be Moderate at times. If you are in any doubt please call us in the office for a chat.

Our challenges are achievable by almost anyone provided they train well in advance.
