Acid attacks are designed to maim, blind and permanently disfigure. Most often carried out on women, the sensory impairment, scarring and trauma can wreck victims’ lives.
Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), working with partners in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Uganda, provides medical support, psychological rehabilitation, pursues cases against perpetrators and lobbies governments to protect people from attacks.
Internationally, ASTI puts pressure on governments everywhere to introduce stricter controls on the sale of acid and stricter penalties for acid attacks.
ASTI is the only international organisation whose sole purpose is to support acid burn victims and end acid violence.
