Did you know that persistent heartburn can be a symptom of oesophageal cancer? Heartburn Cancer UK works to raise awareness of the link between persistent heartburn and both oesophageal cancer and a pre-cancerous condition called Barrett’s Oesophagus. Oesophageal cancer is the sixth biggest cancer killer in the UK, with approximately 8000 deaths per year. However, because most people are not aware of the early symptoms, it is often diagnosed too late, meaning that less than 15% of suffers survive for 5 years. With your help we can continue to spread the life-saving message that if heartburn is present for more than three weeks it should be discussed with a GP. Early Diagnosis WILL save lives!
