Lion Aid

LionAid is a small but highly effective NGO based in the UK focused mainly on the conservation concerns of lions. From an estimated population of 200,000 fifty years ago, we estimate there are only about 15,000 lions remaining in Africa and only five viable populations – the silent extinction of one of the world’s most iconic species. Among the threats :

The trade in lion products such as skins and hunting trophies

The lion bone trade for the Chinese Traditional Medicine market

The illegal cub smuggling trade to supply the captive breeding industry in South Africa ( for canned hunting) and the pet trade
