Meningitis Research Foundation estimates that there are around 3,500 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia every year in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Every day nine people become ill with the diseases. With one in ten people dying, this means a death will occur almost every day. A further two people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations. Meningitis Research Foundation's vision is a world free from meningitis and septicaemia. The charity fights death and disability by funding vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia, raising awareness of the diseases and offering support through in-depth information and befriending.
