The existing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), based at the RUH is cramped and noisy and no longer offers the best environment for premature and sick babies. It currently cares for up to 22 babies at any one time.
The RUH is aiming to improve both the immediate and long-term health prognosis for premature babies and their families by building the UK’s first sustainable NICU. This £6.1m project is a 50/50 funding partnership between the NHS and The Forever Friends Charity.
The new build will offer:-
The best in scientific and clinical expertise
Optimum space and environment
Sustainable design and operation
And be a blueprint for future healthcare buildings both in the UK and further afield.
