Challenge Safety and Support

Your safety is our highest priority and we pride ourselves on helping you to achieve your challenge safely and enjoyably. It is rare to have an emergency on a trip, but rest assured we are equipped with contingency plans, radios/satellite phones, an extensive medical kit and other safety apparatus where appropriate.

A Discover Adventure challenge offers the following, to ensure that you have the experience of a lifetime whilst being in the safest possible hands:

Knowledgeable office team offers support, advice and reassurance in the lead-up to your trip
Trips are led by a team of Discover Adventure leader(s) and medic (depending on group size) and local crew. Our high crew:participant ratio allows us to provide the high level of support our trips are known for
Trips are usually accompanied from the airport by at least one experienced UK-based Discover Adventure crew member. You will find that the leader is based in-country in only a very small minority of destinations

CHALLENGE LEADERS AND CREW

Vic Titorenko - Leader

Discover Adventure leaders are especially selected for their knowledge and passion for trekking and cycling, along with their experience of travelling through remote areas of the world and interacting with different cultures. Not to forget, their second-to-none organisational skills and ability to inspire, support and lead individuals and groups.

There are many factors that could push you out of your comfort zone, and anyone can have a tough day. Our crew understand, and are experts in motivating you to keep going. From bad jokes to a big hug, they will be there to see you through. Just do your training, bring a sense of humour and a sense of adventure, and we’ll do the rest.

LOCAL CREW AND OPERATORS

On an overseas challenge, the Discover Adventure crew work closely with a local support team, whose experience and knowledge of the environment and lifestyle makes them a crucial part of the team. They are all there to ensure your trip runs smoothly and safely.

In-country operators arrange our logistics and support. We choose who we work with based on criteria which includes safety, knowledge, flexibility, employee welfare and environmental ethos. We work with the best, not necessarily the cheapest.

MEDICAL SUPPORT

Medics in Borneo

For extra support and peace of mind, a UK-based trip medic accompanies overseas trips above minimum numbers. Our UK medics always travel with a comprehensive medical kit and are experienced in providing medical support within remote locations and at altitude. Alike our crew, our medics have a great passion for the outdoors and a thirst for adventure.

For smaller group sizes, where there is not a UK-based trip medic to accompany them, all our leaders are fully qualified in expedition first aid.

OFFICE SUPPORT

Our office crew are chosen for organisational skills, travel experience and passion for the industry they work in. We organise everything to do with our challenges from our office outside Salisbury.

Whether you are taking part in an open or a bespoke challenge, you will be appointed a Challenge Coordinator who will be your main point of contact, on hand to answer any and all questions. Your knowledgeable trip co-ordinator will offer support and reassurance in the lead-up to your challenge. Our team knows our trips well, and can offer you advice ranging from training to what kit to take, and what the loos are like!

During the challenge, your in-country crew will have access to our 24-hour emergency line which is manned seven days a week. Should any unforeseen circumstances arise during the challenge there will always be someone on hand from our office, based in the UK, who can assist when required.

RISK ASSESSMENTS AND RECCIES

Our risk assessments are constantly reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis, following every visit, reconnaissance trip or changes to the FCO advice for a particular destination.

Our comprehensive assessments are both destination and activity specific. Should a trip include a visit to a destination we have not previously operated in, a reconnaissance visit will take place in which an experienced challenge leader will check the route, accommodation and meet with local operators who will be involved with the delivery of the trip.

Discover Adventure risk assessments do not stop once the trip departs. Our experienced leader will deliver daily briefings to the group, and are able to divert the group should any unforeseen circumstances arrive in country.
